Nailsworth’s history starts off in approximately the 8th century when it was named “Nagelsleag” and was one of the bounds of Woodchester Estate.
1500’s: Nailsworth is situated in a deep and marshy valley, with forests of beech, ash, oak and sycamore thickly lining the hill sides. The finest properties to choose from in this era would be houses made of rubble, timber or mud & sticks, the only useable roads were the old pack-horse tracks, some of which are still visible today.
In 1790 the main road from Bath to Stroud was built, the A46. This helped Nailsworth to slowly grow. Unlike its surrounding towns and villages who were predominantly farming, Nailsworth decided to concentrate on industry that was establishing, that of a cloth manufacturer. As time went on the town continued to grow and has turned into a prosperous and prestigious place to live
